Franklin & Front (first listen)

from Patreon Content! Patreontent. by Marian Call

about

A very first listen of a brand new baby song! Marian is learning guitar! It hurts!

This is the very first version of this song, it will sound more polished someday, but the Donors' Circle and the Patreon get vulnerable first looks like this.

This tune is about adapting to small town life and joining a community. It's inspired a bit by Franklin Street and Front Street in Juneau (the clock corner) and a little by the bookshop in Good Omens.

lyrics

Tired-eyed people everywhere,
and these ones here I know
Pinballin' around my ten-horse town,
pilin' barstools high with coats

Where'd you plan to land tonight, and what'll we get to eat?
There's a band in town, there's a birthday party
There's a pallet fire on the beach

Oh, I dreamed I'd live in a small enough town
I could walk by all the bar windows
and find the ones I love
and join 'em if I want

I dreamed I'd live in a small enough world
I could roll up any time of night
to a candle lit for me
and a kettle on for tea

Prob'ly it's the best we'll get to live like this
with the ones who'll let us down and lift us
Maybe no one's truly good,
and we never were, but we still think we could be

The circle shifts a tiny bit
to make room for my tired feet to fit
on this crooked floor we've all tripped over
we know the steps by heart

We're not all right, but we're all here
and I saved a spot for you my dear
So tell me all about it,
we'll take a draught of doubt and down it

We're not all right, but we're all in
so I'll talk you through that thing again
til we say goodnight at the corner clock and walk

I dreamed I'd live in a small enough town
I could walk by all the bar windows
and find the ones I love
and join 'em if I want

I dreamed I'd live in a small enough world
I could roll up any time of night
to a candle lit for me
and a kettle on for tea

about

Marian Call Alaska

Marian Call has things to say. She sounds a little like Ingrid Michaelson meets They Might Be Giants & Regina Spektor for bourbon & laughs, which sounds improbable, but give it a try. She hails from Alaska and tours North America and Europe, and she lives on Twitter. Her songs are quirky, sharp, surprising confections in every genre full of rich dark carmelized sugar, savor, & spice. ... more
