about

"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from the Disney film Mary Poppins, written by the Sherman Brothers.

Mary Poppins was my heroine and Julie Andrews my idol as a child. Reportedly my first five-syllable word (people often ask me) is "Indubitably," from the banter in the middle of this song.

lyrics

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious
If you say it loud enough you'll always sound precocious
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay
Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle ay...

Because I was afraid to speak when I was just a lad
My father gave me nose a tweak and told me I was bad
But then one day I learned a word that saved me achin' nose
The biggest word I ever heard and this is how it goes, oh!

(chorus)

(spoken aside)

Mary Poppins:
You know, you can say it backwards, which is
Dociousaliexpilisticfragicalirupes
But that's going a bit too far, don't you think?

Bert:
Indubitably.

So! when the cat has got your tongue there's no need to dismay
Just summon up this word and then you've got a lot to say
But better use it carefully or it could change your life...

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Written by Robert and Richard M. Sherman, published by Wonderland Music Co., Inc., for Walt Disney.

Some fantastic Anchorage musicians dropped by Lucy's studio to form a one-time-only rippin' bluegrass band:

- Eric Rodgers of Hot Club of Nunaka & High Lonesome Sound on fiddle
- Nick Petumenos of Superfrequency and H3 on guitar
- Dan Harter of Hot Dish on banjo
- Alex Lindgren of Gerygone & Twig on bass
They all shouted "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" for me too, along with my family members in TX.

Marian Call on vocals and bad jokes.

Band recorded by Lucy Peckham of Both Ears Sound in Anchorage, AK, the rest recorded by Marian Call. Edited & mixed by Marian Call.

about

Marian Call Alaska

Marian Call has things to say. She sounds a little like Ingrid Michaelson meets They Might Be Giants & Regina Spektor for bourbon & laughs, which sounds improbable, but give it a try. She hails from Alaska and tours North America and Europe, and she lives on Twitter. Her songs are quirky, sharp, surprising confections in every genre full of rich dark carmelized sugar, savor, & spice. ... more
